Keep Your Aligners Clear & Clean

Clear aligners sit directly against your teeth for most of the day. Keeping them clean is key to both appearance and oral health. A few small habits go a long way toward preventing buildup, protecting your enamel, and maintaining aligner clarity:

  • Keep Them Clean - Rinse your aligners with cool or lukewarm water every time you take them out. It will wash away saliva and bacteria.
  • Brush Before Wearing - Always brush your teeth after eating or drinking anything besides water. You'll reduce your risk of harming your aligners and exposing your teeth to bacteria. If you absolutely can't brush, rinse out your mouth with water.
  • Wash Them Gently - Soak your aligners in hydrogen peroxide daily. Never use toothpaste, which can scratch the plastic.
  • Avoid The Heat - Hot water can warp your aligners and affect how they fit. Stick to lukewarm or cool water for rinsing and cleaning.
  • Store Them Properly - Whenever you're not wearing your aligners, keep them in their protective case. This reduces your risk of damaging your aligners and helps protect your teeth from bacteria.

Jennifer was fantastic today. I had been neglectful with my dental hygiene. She had a lot of plaque to remove and she got it with a professional and gentle touch. Jennifer also took time to educate me on my future habits. Thanks Insight Dental!

From the receptionist at the front, Chloe, she’s always so patient with me to answer my insurance questions and get everybody scheduled. We absolutely love the dental hygienist and assistants- Jamie and Quitta are so fun and so patient with my kids. They’re very kind, friendly and professional. Dr. Johnson and Dr. Sheets are so kind, so professional and knowledgeable. We came from traumatic experiences at a prior dentist and they have been so good with each of my kids. I love that Dr. Johnson is airway focused, and supports expansion of the pallet and not just going straight to braces. We don’t use fluoride and they are supportive and never hassle us about it. Jamie the hygienist has even ordered us special toothpaste and polish without fluoride. I have four kids, three of them with Invisalign and we’ve had great success. My two-year-old was just seen today for his first happy gentle cleaning visit and the hygienist, Lasagna could not have been more perfect with him! Truly this is been the best dental experiences we have had over the last two years.

Hands down, the best customer service and expeditious appointments. I never wait. Jennifer did a great job on my cleaning. She was very knowledgeable of the trade and made suggestions for me to dry bush. Who would have ever thought but it makes since and should help between my cleanings.

Common Questions About Aligner Care

How should I clean my aligners each day?

To keep your aligners fresh and clear, rinse them every time you take them out. Soak them daily in hydrogen peroxide to keep them clean. Avoid using toothpaste, which can scratch the plastic and make them appear cloudy. Always store your aligners in their case when not in use to prevent bacteria buildup or accidental damage.

Can I eat or drink while wearing my aligners?

It's best to remove your aligners anytime you eat or drink anything other than plain, cool water. Hot beverages can warp the plastic, while food and sugary drinks can get trapped inside the trays, increasing your risk of cavities or staining. Always brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in to keep them clear and your smile healthy. Keeping them clean also helps avoid unpleasant odors or discoloration.

What should I do if I lose or break an aligner?

If your aligner is lost or damaged, contact your dentist as soon as possible. We'll let you know whether to move forward to your next set or order a replacement. In some cases, you may be advised to wear your previous aligner to hold your progress until a new tray arrives. Acting quickly helps avoid setbacks or shifting that could lengthen your treatment.
